LEWISTON — Richard R. Obie, 74, of 211 Old Lisbon Road, Lewiston, died Friday evening, March 9, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born in Lewiston on July 10, 1937, a son of Bertrand and Antoinette (Morin) Obie. Richard was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.
On July 7, 1962, he married the former Therese M. Madore and together they settled in Lewiston to raise their family. Richard was a military veteran having served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1962.
He worked 31 years as a press operator at Pioneer Plastics until his retirement and was a member of Lisbon Falls Baptist Church and the Franco-American War Veterans. Richard enjoyed music and was an accomplished musician, having had his own band, known as The Rhythym Kings for 22 years. He also enjoyed model trains as a hobby and was a member of the Great Falls Railroad Club for many years.
He was a loving, devoted and hard-working husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Therese Obie, of Lewiston; two sons, Marcel Obie and wife, Jeannine, of Lisbon, and Lawrence Obie and wife, Florinda, of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Michael Obie, Heather Obie, Stephen Obie, Zabryna Obie, Zachariah Obie and Lawrence Obie II; one sister, Georgette Francis and husband, John, of Lander, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Doris; and his parents, Bertrand and Antoinette.
