AUBURN — Between budgets and finding a new city manager, city councilors have a busy few weeks ahead of them.
Councilors have six meetings scheduled through the rest of this month, beginning Monday with a 5:30 p.m. workshop to discuss creating a biking and pedestrian committee with Lewiston and their City Council goals.
A joint subcommittee, including two Auburn councilors and two Lewiston councilors, will meet Wednesday to review proposed budgets from shared agencies.
Councilors will host a special workshop Thursday to review a report on the Auburn Fire Department.
March’s schedule also includes a daylong budget workshop, scheduled for Saturday, March 31, to review department budgets for police, fire, public works, purchasing, library, planning and permitting, and assessing.
That meeting, and all of the March and April council meetings and workshops, are scheduled in the City Council Chambers in Auburn Hall.
Councilors have 11 meetings scheduled for April. That includes four meetings set aside to interview prospective city manager candidates and five devoted to reviewing the municipal budget.
“They just have a lot to get through, and there’s really no way to get around,” acting City Manager Don Gerrish said. “They have to find a new city manager, and they have to complete the budget. And then they have some regular meetings in there as well.”
