100 years ago, 1912
On an office door in Goff block, Auburn, has appeared this sign: “Eastern and Western Development Co.” printed in big type on a white cardboard. Its articles of incorporation are in the State of Arizona and the incorporators are Maine men, nearly all of them living in Auburn. The corporation has obtained a majority of the stock in the Haiwee-Pacific Oil Co, the controlling interest being in Maine, and the new corporation would take over the affairs and preside over the destinies of what was once Roosevelt Oil. An audit will be conducted and, oil or no oil, they believe they have a valuable asset in the real estate which the Haiwee-Pacific Co. has acquired because an aqueduct company wants it to flood.

50 years ago, 1962
(Photo Caption) Ronnie Pike, 10, of Center Street, Auburn, proudly holds aloft the puzzled rabbit he caught in true Frank Buck fashion in the Bobbin Mill Brook area. Ronnie, enjoying the newly-fallen snow with Ronnie Hiscock of 217 Bradman St., spotted the long-eared one Tuesday and gave chase. The tracks led to a hole in the ground, and hunter Pike, fearless through it all, grabbed far into the hole and out came Mr. Hippity-Hop, embarrassed as he should have been to be nabbed in such manner.

25 years ago, 1987
Tempers may have flared often during the past two weeks, but most Lewiston city councilors were smiling Thursday after they adopted a $36 million spending plan. Councilors voted 5-2 to approve the budget with only councilors Paul A. Couture and Lionel Goulet opposed. When asked why he voted against the plan, Couture replied, “Because I wanted to. Nobody tells me how to vote otherwise.”
