LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus, area agency on aging, has announced March classes for the older adult learner. The classes are designed to help people make informed choices about aging well, living independently and doing it all safely.

“Curious About Your Family History?”: Tuesdays, March 13, 20, 27, one-on-one sessions, 1 to 2, 2:15 to 3:15 or 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; instructor, C. N. Holmes. Bring information if possible.

Medicare Information Session: Thursday, March 15, 10 to 11:30 a.m.; instructor, Roland Bussiere, SeniorsPlus Medicare counselor. Learn the basics and timelines of the system, when to sign up and ways to save money.

Seniors’ Health Care Protection and Knowledge: Monday, March 19, 1 to 3 p.m.; instructors, Representative Jim Campbell and Frank Kimball, Maine Bureau of Insurance, Glen Griswold, director of Maine Consumer Health Care Division.

“Aches and Pains?”: Wednesday, March 21, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; instructor, Gayle Houston, PTA, CKTP, Huber Associates. Learn how to care for an aching back, neck, hips and knees, and joint protection suggestions for everyday use, according to American Physical Therapy Association standards.

Preventing Colorectal Cancer: Monday, March 26, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; instructor, Maureen M. Higgins, LCSW, cancer health outreach educator, Sarah Morrill, GI oncology patient navigator. Colorectal cancer can be a preventable disease.  Learn how diet, activity level, lifestyle and family history affect colon health. 

“What’s Happening to My Body As It Ages?: Tips for Preventing Injury and Illness”: Friday, March 30, 1 to 2:30 p.m.; Dr. Alan Verrill, CMMC. Learn new tips and reminders about staying well.
