The March 11 Sun Journal headline to Karen Bilodeau’s Forum article, “Business takes priority over common sense,” was misleading, in my estimation. It should have read “Injustice takes priority over common sense.”
Bilodeau’s article was about the Maine Legislature’s promoting injustice in the workplace relative to the working person’s safety and wages, as well as safety of product, at the former DeCoster Egg Farm, with its support of recent legislation rejecting workers’ freedom to organize a labor union.
Business does not have to treat its workers poorly in order to be successful. Business does not have to present an unsafe product to consumers to be successful.
Bilodeau’s article was about humanity, justice and dignity for human beings — specifically the working persons at the former DeCoster Egg Farm — and a safe product for the consumer.
Now, isn’t that positive for Maine and for business?
