Who should attend?
Home health nurses, public health nurses, local health officers, landlords, code enforcement officers, school nurses, advocates for children, and anyone else who
enters other people’s homes.
What will you learn?
Hazards in the home that cause health problems
Populations at risk for home health problems
Resources to help identify and address home health hazards
Purpose:
Many people live in homes and apartments that put them and their families at risk of sickness and injury. Health hazards in the home include lead paint, pesticides, structural damage, cigarette smoke, and mold. If you go into people’s homes as part of your work, you will want to attend this Healthy Homes Training to learn more about home health hazards and the local resources that can help people identify and address health hazards in their homes.
Agenda:
8:30-9 a.m. Registration
9–9:15 a.m. Welcome
9:15–9:45 a.m. Healthy Homes Overview. Participants will learn about the seven core principles of a healthy home and about the Maine Healthy Homes Initiative.
9:45–10:45 a.m. Panel Presentations. Content experts will present overviews of specific hazards, their health effects, populations at risk, discuss challenges, and answer questions from the audience.
10:45–11 a.m. Break
11 a.m.-12 p.m. Round Table Discussions. Participants will be able to attend round table discussions on the
hazards of most interest to them.
12–1 p.m. Lunch
1–2 p.m. Panel Presentations
2–2:15 p.m. Break
2:15-3:15 p.m. Round Table Discussions
3:15–3:30 p.m. Wrap up / Evaluation. Participants will complete evaluation forms and discuss next steps.
