BRUNSWICK — Bertha Emmons Sylvain, 96, of Freeport, passed away on Monday, March 12, at Mid Coast Hospital.

She was born in Richmond, the daughter of Benjamen Owen and Yvonne Dostie Emmons, she graduated from Richmond High School. On Sept. 2, 1933, she married Emile Joseph Sylvain at St. Ambrose Church in Richmond.

Bertha was a homemaker before going to work at L.L. Bean. She and her husband both retired from Bean’s on the same day. She enjoyed sports, especially watching tournament basketball and the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline Carr and husband, Roland, of Monmouth; a son, Richard Sylvain and his wife, Karen, of Freeport; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband; three brothers, Don, Chet and Bill; and one sister, Pinky.
