Basket Beano

FARMINGTON — Farmington Emblem Club 460 will hold Basket Beano from1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at the Farmington Elks Lodge, West Farmington.

Tickets are $20. Call Shannon at 778-4726 or any Emblem member. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and there will be raffles and food.

Shriners weekend

LEWISTON — Kora Shrine has announced its annual Summer Ceremonial will be held on the weekend of June 8, 9 and 10 at the Windsor fairgrounds.

The weekend will include golf, candidate orientation, a Saturday afternoon parade on Ridge Road next to the fairgrounds (open to the public) and entertainment featuring Bob Marley.

The events are open to all Shriners and their guests and Master Masons. Shrine is an international fraternal organization that follows the main theme of having fun and helping kids, and supports Shriners Hospital for Children.

VFW meeting

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the Mult-Purpose Center. All officers and members are encouraged to attend. Veterans eligible for membership are also invited.

Food, auction

AUBURN — Student Journey Ministries youth group, Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court St., will hold a taco feed and pie auction from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18. Proceeds will go to the summer mission trip fund.

Special guests

AUBURN — Those attending the 4 p.m. worship service at the Auburn United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 17, will be joined by the Christian Motorcyclist Association Chapter 579, Redeemed Riders, Oxford.

Many of the Christian fellowship ride group’s members will arrive at the church by motorcycle. Club secretary Kevin Harms and one other member will speak about the organization and its mission. Music director Mitch Thomas and Pastor Richard Cullen will lead the service. All are welcome.

Teachers invited

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Bill of Rights Institute is partnering with the Foundation for Economic Education to host the Founders Fellowship: Civil Liberty, Commerce, and the Constitution.

American history and civics teachers from across the country are invited to apply. Selected Fellows will participate in a professional development program aimed at deepening their understanding and appreciation of the American founding.

Participating teachers will convene in Washington, D.C., July 16 to 20 for a program that will expand their knowledge of the Constitution. Participants will engage in lectures with constitutional scholars, discussions with fellow teachers and scholar-led visits to historic sites.

In order to prepare for the program, Fellows will complete readings about the founding exploring the question “How did the Founders define liberty?” Attending teachers will receive a certificate for 25 contact hours.

Fellows will be selected based upon their leadership in their classroom and profession and dedication to educating their students about the connections between politics and economics in America.
