LEWISTON — Owen Edward “Ed” Bishop, 84, of 14 Sherbrooke Ave., Lewiston, died at his home on Wednesday, March 14, after a long illness while surrounded by his family.
He was born in Muskegon, Mich., July 1, 1927, the son of Owen B. and Margaret Loshy Bishop. Educated in Michigan schools, he was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1956.
On Nov. 15, 1952, he married the former Muriel St. Hilaire at St. Louis Church in Auburn, after his discharge from the Navy, he worked as an installer for Soule Glass for many years, and then was employed at the Pejepscot Mill in Topsham.
Most recently, he worked as the crossing guard for Farwell School. A member of Holy Family Church, Prince of Peace Parish, he also belonged to the American Legion Post 22, the Franco-American War Veterans, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 106.
Besides his loving wife of 59 years, he is survived by three daughters, Debra Lafrance and husband, Raymond, of Poland, Sandra Moreau and husband, Jim, of Lewiston and Susan Bergeron and husband, Gary, of Freeport; a sister, Beatrice Lampman of Michigan; two grandchildren, Kimberly St. Pierre and husband, Kevin, and Steven Lafrance; a great-grandson, Keenan St. Pierre; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews in Michigan.
He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Fairfield; and three sisters, Marian Sessions, Doris Whisler and Isabel Bishop.
His love of family, friends, children, and pets resulted in smiles and happiness for many.
