The second-to-last paragraph of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial printed March 10 (View from elsewhere) provided a very concise argument for term limits with the statement, “Such sessions sometimes generate admirable levels of legislative courage, given that fair numbers of elected officials won’t be returning.” The statement was in reference to bills presented during the “lame-duck” session, as the period between the November elections and the swearing-in of newly elected representatives is known.
Just think what could be done with our representatives’ time if they knew the extent of their time in office was limited. They could focus on the task at hand and not spend valuable time running for re-election.
