The road back to the Frozen Four will have a familiar feel for the University of Maine Black Bears,

On Sunday, the NCAA selection committee announced the 16 schools that will make up this year’s national tournament. As expected, Maine is back in the field for the first time in five years.

Maine will skate in the Northeast regional at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass. as the No. 3 seed, squaring off against No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth (24-9-6) on Saturday night. The Black Bears (23-13-3) are coming off a loss to the top-ranked team in the country, Boston College, in the Hockey East final last Saturday in Boston.

Those same Eagles (29-10-1) earned the top overall seed in the NCAA tourney, and are also headed to Worcester, where they will skate against regional fourth seed Air Force. The regional sets up a potential fifth game between Maine and BC this season, with each having won two in the four previous meetings.

Other regional sites in this year’s tournament are Bridgeport, Conn., Green Bay, Wis., and St. Paul, Minn. Union, North Dakota and Michigan are the other top seeds, while Boston University and Massacusetts-Lowell were the other two Hockey East schools to earn bids. Lowell will skate against Miami of Ohio in Bridgeport, while BU will face Minnesota in St. Paul.
