LIVERMORE FALLS — Spruce Mountain High School seniors will give presentations on their high school career and future aspirations during an Aspire Higher evening Wednesday.

A variety of workshops on future education and careers and people who have been through the college process, both students and parents, will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. March 21 at the south campus of Spruce Mountain High School in Livermore Falls.

There will also be a college and career fair, drawings for awards and door prizes.

“The event will focus on encouraging academic growth and higher aspirations for all Spruce Mountain area middle and high school students,” college specialist Sandra Wyman said. “We are excited to have the opportunity to provide our students, their families, and the community with the chance to participate in events that will encourage academic and professional development.”

Elyse Pratt-Ronco, a representative of the University of Maine at Farmington Upward Bound Program, will open the session with “What’s behind Door No. 3 and Making Decisions about the Future.” Her presentation will begin at 6 p.m. in the south campus cafeteria.

There will be five mini-workshops for those attending.

The workshop sessions are:

* College For ME Androscoggin and its aim to increase the number of college degree holders in the county by providing services to youth, adult and employers.

* Advanced placement, honor courses will give information on these programs and participating in college courses.

* Parent Round-Table Discussion by community members who already have children in college.

* Student Panel Discussion by alumni from the former Livermore Falls High School and what to expect going to college.

* Success for College Students is a presentation by UMF Assistant Professor of Philosophy George Miller who will give a workshop on how to be a successful college student.

There will also be representatives from a variety of colleges and universities, local and state businesses and professionals and the military taking part in a college and career fair, Wyman said.

There will be a drawing for a $500 scholarship drawing for participating seniors and a mystery educational drawing for middle school students.

Among the door prizes to be drawn throughout the evening will be two Kindles and a HP TouchPad.
