BUCKFIELD — Interim Town Manager Dana Lee told selectmen Tuesday night that he sat down with his family March 12 and told them he is considering applying for the job.

“I’ve come to like this town and the people. I would like to put my hat in,” he said.

Selectmen nodded in approval of Lee’s decision.

Lee asked Town Clerk Cindy Dunn be a part of the interview process, because “I would certainly recuse myself from any interviews for the town manager job.”

Lee said the clerk has agreed to receive the applications (confidentially) and assist the board in the final phase of the search. A workshop was set up with Dunn and the selectmen to set guidelines for the interview process.

Lee read an email from Larry Mead, chairman of the Maine Town and City Managers Association Ethics Committee, who said Lee met the ethical standard of MTCMAA because of his transparency to selectmen in separating himself from the hiring process and his request for review by the ethics committee to uphold its standards

“It is important to you, to me and to Buckfield residents that this process be free from undue influence and be done thoughtfully, correctly and ethically,” Lee said.

The board also approved the reclassification of the town clerk/treasurer/tax collector from an hourly to salaried position with no pay change.

Lee said it would make the job cleaner because often Dunn works beyond her normal hours and people have been known to think she was getting overtime pay.

“This will take away all of that kind of talk,” he said.

The board approved the appointments for ballot clerks beginning March 20, 2012, and ending March 2014.

The Republican clerks are Amy Beaucage, Barbara Bennett, Judith Bennett, Sue Bradbury, Everett Tilton, Lorna Dewitt, Wendy Turner, Wendy HInkley and Glen Aho.

Democratic clerks appointed are Priscilla Bennett, Mary Miclon, Lynda Bell, Rosita Friel, Joanne Bley, Stacey Scotia, Shirley Lovejoy and Sarah Bly.

It was decided to invite Sumner selectmen to the next meeting to discuss transfer station paving. The two towns share the use of the station.
