FARMINGTON — Nelson Russell Neil, 73, of Wilton, went home to be with the Lord on March 20, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation & Living Center.

He was born May 3, 1938, in Wilton, the son of Leslie and Gladys (White) Neil, one of four children. He attended area schools and graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1968, with a B.S. in education.

Later, in 1972, he received a master’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono, and furthered his graduate work at UMO, as well as USM. Nelson held various teaching and administrative positions in New Hampshire and Maine until ill health forced him to retire in January 1989. Nelson was appointed to the Maine State Advisory Committee on Vocational Education and had also served on the Maine State Advisory Committee on Special Education.

Nelson enjoyed walking, canoeing, x-country skiing and camping. He had an appreciation of nature and loved watching the seasons pass on Voter Hill. He will be remembered for his positive attitude and love of life.

Nelson is survived by his wife of 36 years, Elayne (Haskell) Neil; a son Jeffrey M. Neil; granddaughter, Nicole Sutton; and sister, Faylene Greenough.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Roland Neil; and his sister, Norma Hasfelt.
