LIVERMORE FALLS — The Fire Department has stopped issuing burning permits in the town until rain falls because of the early snow melt, Chief Gerry Pineau said.

The top layer of grass, left over from last year, is dry and burns fast.

An unpermitted grass fire caused about $1,000 in damages after it spread to a house on Park Street Tuesday, he said.
