FARMINGTON — Melvin F. Barker, 85, of East Livermore, died Thursday, March 22, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 24, 1926, the son of Frank and Vira Barker, but was raised by the late Jasper and Viola Nickerson. He grew up in Turner and shortly after high school, he started working as a maintenance and handyman at several local nursing homes. Many of those years were spent at Green Acres Manor. Melvin was also a very good carpenter.
Mr. Barker enjoyed hunting and fishing over the years. He also loved working on all types of machines and really enjoyed making people laugh.
He is survived by his sons, Brian and Brent Barker, of Turner; his daughter, Bambi Hathaway, of Turner; a brother, Roy Nickerson, of Turner; a sister, Lillian Ledbetter, of Turner; his granddaughter, who he raised, Nichole Roberts and her husband, Brett, of Chesterville; 29 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was predeceased by his wife, Harriet Barker in 2002.
