DEAR SUN SPOTS: At least 30 years ago my husband assembled two Emperor clocks. One is a grandfather clock; the other is a smaller wall-hanging one. Both need some TLC to work. Is there anyone out there who can restore the mechanics? Thank you. — Coral Herbert, cobetter1@roadrunner.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots has a few options in her Rolodex, including Harry Hepburn III of Harrison (583-2821) Rohman Clockworks at 350 Minot Ave., Auburn (784-1211) and Leroy Blauvelt of Porter Road, Dixfield (562 8955).

Catherine Raynor of Morin’s Fine furniture, 782-7511, www.morinsfinefurniture.com, also wrote to Sun Spots offering to help customers find vendors for clocks such as yours.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our favorite leather recliner recently has an issue. Apparently the internal metal mechanism has let go. The chair looks like it has a flat tire, but it still works! I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a furniture repair person. We are also looking for someone that services antique clocks. Thank you. — M.B. via email

ANSWER: The previous answer should serve you as well.

Sun Spots has never had a question about recliners before, but Catherine Raynor of Morin’s Fine Furniture has offered to help with any furniture question. Others who provide this service should write to Sun Spots so she can put their information in the column.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: So thankful for all the help you give to everyone, I’m looking for a phone number for Mary Ann who had the unwanted ELHS yearbooks in the Feb. 9 column. I’m looking for 1964 & 65.

Also I think there was a place in Lewiston that takes good unwanted furniture but I can’t remember the name of the place. Thank you. — Rita, Minot

ANSWER: Mary Ann did not have those years. According to her letter, she had 1979-1981.

As for furniture, if you just want to give it away, charities such as the Salvation Army and Goodwill will take it as long as it is clean and in good condition with no rips or tears in the upholstery.

St. Martin de Porres Bargain Basket at the corner of College and Bartlett streets (786-4690) also takes furniture, but there may be a size limit. They have limited hours, so you should call in morning and arrange a time for dropping it off.

There are undoubtedly other charities that are accepting furniture, especially this time of year. Please write to Sun Spots and she will put your information in the column.

Is there any store in Lewiston-Auburn that sell polyester wide-leg slacks with elastic waistbands in different colors?

At different times of the year you see them advertised in the Blair flier. I don’t know how to order them by mail and have them fit me right. — No Name, Hebron

ANSWER: Sun Spots thinks this is a question for your fellow readers. It seems that with all the stores in L-A what you want should be available.
