Melinda Campbell calculates how much space she needs to display hundreds of “Art Is” panels at Fairview Elementary School in Auburn on Friday. Campbell, the art teacher at Fairview, and the three other Auburn elementary art teachers worked with students in kindergarten through sixth grade to help them design panels that described what art means to them. Each segment will be attached to the next, creating a traveling mural called “Art Is.” To Ema Lamontagne, a third-grader at Sherwood Heights Elementary ,”Art is a musical instrument that can play any song.” Another student wrote, “Art is better than chocolate.”
