LEWISTON — Jeannine E. Smart, 79, of Bartlett Street, Lewiston, died Monday morning, March 19, at her home.

She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 26, 1933, a daughter of Ludger and Marie (Rossignol) Pelletier. Jeannine was educated in local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

She married Albert M. Smart on Dec. 1, 1951. He predeceased her on Feb. 13, 1978.

Jeannine first worked, for seven years, at Continental Mill, and later, at Bates College for 27 years  until her retirement in 1995. She was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, and was a member and president of both American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary Unit No. 31 of Auburn and No. 22 of Lewiston. She also served as chaplain of the Lewiston Auxiliary in 1980. Jeannine was also a member of Queen’s Guild and Holy Cross Seniors.

She enjoyed doing crafts, watching movies and her favorite TV shows, especially “Touched by an Angel,” and travelling and taking trips with her husband and the Holy Cross Seniors, as well as Pilgrimage and fall foliage trips with her friend, Lorraine Ouellette of Greene.

She leaves one sister, Jacqueline Farrell, and her husband, Robert, of Carpentersville, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Smart; and four brothers, Louis, Philip, Paul and Gerry Pelletier.
