BRIDGTON — A Paris teen charged in a fatal car crash had her case continued to late April in Bridgton District Court on Monday.
Morgan Kesseli, 18, is charged with manslaughter in the death of Thomas McLendon, 19, of Oxford. She was driving a Chevrolet Blazer north on Waterford Road in Harrison on Oct. 21, 2010, when she lost control of it and it crossed the southbound lane and hit trees. McLendon was a passenger in the SUV.
Passengers Jacob Hill, who was 20 at the time, and Timothy Coffin, who was 21, were badly hurt, as was Kesseli, who was 17 at the time of the crash. Investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Windham Police Department concluded excessive speed was the primary factor in the accident.
McLendon’s parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Kesseli and her mother, Lisa Palmer, in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris, but the case was settled out of court in January.
Palmer recently co-founded the Impaired Driving Awareness Group of Oxford Hills, a group of parents, police and other emergency personnel that hopes to warn teens of the dangers of distracted driving.
