LEWISTON — Pauline Simones, 90, of Auburn died after a very brief illness on Sunday, March 25, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Mechanic Falls, Dec. 11, 1921, the daughter of the late Harry and Susie (Chase) Danforth.
She was educated in Mechanic Falls and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School, Class of 1939. Pauline proudly served her country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 at Cherry Point Marine Air Base, North Carolina, and was also employed as a clerk in the War Department Intelligence Service during World War II.
Pauline married the love of her life, Christo Simones, June 8, 1947, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Christo predeceased her on Oct. 24, 2011. She worked for a number of years as a secretary for Edward Little High School and the State of Maine Probation and Parole Department.
She was a very active member of The Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she liked writing poems for all occasions and had a witty sense of humor. She enjoyed reading, swimming at the YWCA, crossword puzzles, spending time with her family and in her early years loved to jitterbug with her husband.
Pauline leaves three daughters, Christine and husband, Rene Sirois, of Auburn, Roxanne and husband, Gilles Dionne, of Poland and Elaine and husband, Charlie Tirrell, of Biddeford; a son, Harry and wife, Nancy Simones, of Auburn; four grandchildren, Stacy Trundy and husband, Rob, of Hebron, Wesley Dionne of Dover, N.H., Lindsay Sirois of Portland and Chelsea Dionne of Mechanic Falls; a great-grandson, Cade Trundy; beloved niece, Mary Copeland and her husband, Bill, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and many nephews.
