PARIS — A farm pond construction workshop will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Oxford County Cooperative Extension Office on Olson Road.
Candi Gilpatric, an agricultural engineer with 20 years of experience with the Maine Natural Resource Conservation Service, will provide information and guidance on choosing a site, style of pond and method of construction and she will help with maintenance issues and recommendations on how to keep a pond safe and healthy.
The working fee is $5.
Sonny Pierce, owner of Pierce Associates, Inc./Shy Beaver Hatchery, will lead a trout-stocking workshop at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the conservation district office.
Pierce has had 25 years of experience as a biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. He also has more than 20 years of experience managing small ponds.
Pierce will share his personal experience and professional advice on subjects ranging from trout food and feeding, aquatic weed control, algae control, bacteria and liming to pH adjustment. There will be time to share experiences and ask advice. The fee is $5.
Both workshops are being sponsored by the Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District. Register by calling at 743-5789, ext.111. Snacks and a light lunch will be provided.
