FARMINGTON — Vella Eloise Meisner, 95, of North Chesterville, died late Saturday, March 24, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Mason Township, March 28, 1916, a daughter of Charles and Frances (Wesley) Meisner. She was a graduate of Farmington High School, Auburn School of Commerce and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business education from the University of Maine at Orono.
Mrs. Meisner was a teacher for 38 years, having taught for seven years at Calais High School, four years at Bucksport High School, where she also served as chair of the Business Ed Department, two years at Presque Isle High School and one year at Dexter High School. She taught at Spaulding High School in Barre, Vt., for 24 years, where she served as chair of the Business Education Department.
Ms. Meisner was a member of the local, state and National Education Association, served as treasurer of the Barre, Vt. Education Association, auditor of the Vermont Teacher’s VEA Credit Union and served as treasurer of the American Assoc. of University Women.
She was a member of the Congregational Evening Club and served as noble grand of the Bright Star Rebekah Lodge 18. After residing in Barre, Vt., for 30 years, she moved to North Chesterville to be closer to her family.
She is survived by her sister, Zelma Toothaker and her husband, Clark, both of Sandy River Center for Rehabilitation in Farmington; her nephews, Hubert Meisner and his wife, Ruth, of Chesterville and Glenn Meisner and his companion, Cathy Petrie, of Farmington Falls; two nieces, Anne Lambert and her husband, Tom and Claire Trask, all of Chesterville; a sister-in-law, Barbara Meisner of Florida; and several grandnephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Jack, Joe and Orville.
