DEAR SUN SPOTS: I hope some of your readers can help me. I am an elderly person on a fixed income, and I’ve always had a passion for books. When I had to move out of my house, I gave away more than 400 books. It broke my heart.

I’ve always loved to be surrounded by books; they give me a sense of security. I’m sure a lot of your readers understand what I mean.

My eyes have been bothering me for some time, and I have a hard time reading regular print. I go to Goodwill and find a few large-print books each month. I used to read a book a week. Books are my life.

I would be very grateful if some of your readers would be kind enough to want to part with some of their large-print books. Thank you very much. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Sunspots is sure she will hear from some readers who have large-print books they are willing to part with for small sums. Perhaps the writer of the next letter will be able to help you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a variety of books that I would like to donate to any individual or organization. Some include Reader’s Digest coffee table books and a number of paperbacks and hardbacks.

People are able to take as many or as few as they like. I have enjoyed them and just want to pass them along. Please contact me at 782-5681. Leave message if necessary. I would be willing to deliver, if someone wanted all of them. Thanks for your help. — Dee Dumais, carol_burnham@myfairpoint.net

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On Sunday, March 4, there was an auction in the Boston area. Up for auction were 100-plus letters written during World War II from a serviceman and his wife, Olive Bachelder. His first name is unknown.

The Franklin County descendants of George Washington Bachelder would like to know who Olive’s husband was and of any relationship to the Franklin County Bachelders.

My husband, Donald M. Bachelder, was in the Marines in the 1940s and received a Purple Heart. Maybe your readership can tell us something to add to our Bachelder family history. Please call me at 684-3315.

In response to a late February letter, the Reeds Mill Circle of Madrid Township make quilts to sell and also try to fix up old ones. Our contact member is Marie B. at 639-4666, 62 Pinkham Hill Road, Phillips, ME 04966. If mailing, send photos and information about the condition (no Internet). — A.M.B., Strong

ANSWER: Sun Spots can’t be sure, but she thinks the second part of A.M.B.’s letter refers to a Feb. 24 inquiry from Helene, who was looking for someone who repairs old quilts.
