PORTLAND — A Brunswick pharmacy paid $10,000 to settle claims involving record-keeping violations that involved controlled drugs, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced Thursday.

A civil complaint accused Medical Center Pharmacy of violating the record-keeping provisions of the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970.

The complaint stemmed from an April 2011 inspection of the pharmacy by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration that showed the pharmacy had failed to maintain adequate inventory records of controlled substances and had failed to notify the DEA of a theft or significant loss of controlled substances.

The investigation was conducted by the DEA. The pharmacy cooperated in resolving the matter and committed to implementing substantial improvements to its controlled substances record-keeping system, Delahanty said.
