LEWISTON — Therese Turgeon Picard, 92, who lived for 44 years at 78 Bartlett St., Lewiston, died peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday, March 28, at d’Youville Pavilion following a lingering illness.

She was born in Lewiston, Aug. 14, 1919, the daughter of Edouard and Marie Anne Roy Turgeon. She attended Sacred Heart Convent in Jackman and pursued her education further at the Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson, N.H., and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1938.

Therese married Levite Picard on Sept. 14, 1942, at St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston. She and her husband operated Lee and Terry’s Variety Store on the corner of Pine and Bartlett streets from 1951 to 1961. Then, she worked for 10 years as a cosmetologist at Turgeon’s Pharmacy, a family business in Lewiston since the 1940s.

“Terry” then worked 10 years at the Lewiston Public Library, retiring in 1981. She was also very active in the peace movement of Pax Christi on a national and state level. She was a member of St. Ann’s Sodality of St. Peter and Paul’s Basilica and Marchande de Bonheur. She very much enjoyed reading and being involved in local Democratic politics. The family fondly remembers Terry and Lee’s Friday night back alley bridge card games with Flo, Helene, Adrien and Simonne.

She is survived by one son, Roy William Picard and her beloved daughter-in-law, Charlene Moore Picard, of North Turner; two grandchildren, William Picard of Turner and Aimee Picard Gibbs and her husband, Jim, of North Turner; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Gibbs; she will also be missed by many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Helene Gagnon, Rolande Prevost and Julie Footer of Lewiston, Doris Bonneau of Auburn and Sister Cecelia Palange of New York.

She was predeceased by her husband, Levite; three children at birth, Rudy, Diane and Joseph; and three brothers, Emile, Dan and Roger Turgeon and his wife, Florentine.

The family wishes to express their thanks and deep appreciation to Dr. Seth Gordon and to the nurses and staff at d’Youville Pavilion for the wonderful care they provided for Therese.
