“Radioactive Fallout and Shelters” was the subject of the first session of a Civil Defense medical self-help program which was held Tuesday night at the Androscoggin County Building with Dr. Arthur Moulton, local dentist, as the instructor. The course is designed to teach anyone how to survive in case of possible disaster, and proponents of the program hope that by 1964 at least one member of every family will have taken it.

25 years ago, 1987
L.L. Beans of Freeport has completed negotiations and signed a five-year lease for the former Lewiston Shoe Manufacturing Company building in the Industrial Park in Lisbon Falls. No new local jobs will be created. Beans will transfer 100 current employees from its workforce at the Freeport plant. The Lisbon Falls facility will be used in part for storage of leather and other raw material, cutting and pre-fit and hand sewing. Workers will be making components for Bean’s famous Maine Hunting Shoe uppers and uppers for hand-sewn shoes.
