LEWISTON — Maurice J. Roy, 74, died peacefully on March 29, at 10:13 p.m. surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Auburn, the son of the late Leo and Wilhelmina Berube Roy. Maurice graduated from Edward Little High School in 1956, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1957, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 16, 1963.
On Jan. 16, 1965, he married Joline Begin, and they raised four children. He was employed at IP, Jay, for 36 years, retiring in 2002.
From 2004, until his retirement on Feb. 5, 2010, he worked as a security guard with Andrews International for ING; a job he really loved, but had to retire because of health problems.
He was a member and trustee of First Assembly of God church, Lewiston.
His hobbies included painting with oils and he was an avid reader. His family was his life, he was an inspiration to them and a role model, always putting his family first. On a down day, the sunshine in his life was visits from his little 2-year-old grandson, Cayden, who had a way of lifting his spirit and putting a smile on his face. He cherished his visits and Cayden loved his Pépère.
Maurice is survived by his wife of 47 years; four children, daughter, Michele and her husband, David, of Wales, Sharon and companion, Julie, of Arrowsic, Danielle and her husband, Tony, of Lewiston, and son, Andy and his wife, Laurie, of Florida; four grandchildren, Tyler, Cayden, Britni and Krista; brother-in-law, Ronald Provost of Delaware; an uncle, Henry Gervais of Lewiston; cousins; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; and sister, Lorraine Roy Provost.
Maurice will be sorely missed, but will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Daniel Rausch and staff at Central Maine Oncology, especially RN Vivian St. Onge, who has been an inspiration and comfort to Maurice and our family, Dr. Oswaldo Bisbal, the Ml and M4 nursing staff and doctors at Central Maine Medical Center, Androscoggin County Hospice Home Care staff, especially RN Kathleen Langelier for her care and compassion, and Pastor Donald Cougle.
