AUBURN — Marie-Reine Bail Chabot, age 84, of Auburn, died March 31 after a courageous battle with cancer. She spent the last two weeks of her life at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by loving family and friends.

She was born on April 19, 1927, the oldest daughter of Louis Philippe and Aurelie Marcotte Bail. Marie earned her bachelor of arts degree from Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pa., in 1949, with a concentration in Spanish and French.

On Sept. 10, 1951, she married Dr. Fernand L. Chabot, her husband of 59 years. She was a loving wife, mother of four, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a devoted parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at St. Louis Church, where she was involved in the religious education program and as a lector.

Marie was an avid seamstress. She also enjoyed an active outdoor life, including tennis, golf and walking. She and Fern spent many memorable winters in the Daytona Beach area. Throughout her life, her most cherished moments were times spent with family and friends, who will always remember her for her deep faith, her loving nature and her positive outlook.

She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Carmen Pope and her husband, Jeff, of Beverly, Mass.; son, Marc Chabot and his wife, Joanie, of Auburn; daughter, Renee Healy and her husband, Steve, of Turner; son, Jacques Chabot of Poland; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Turcotte, Nicholas Healy, Nicole Chabot-Wieferich, Katelyn Chabot, Kristen O’Neill, Alexandra Chabot, Stephanie Healy, Kelly Pope and David Pope; three great-grandchildren, Madisyn Turcotte, Tyler Turcotte and Jonathan O’Neill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four siblings, Madeleine Barbin, Claude Bail, Monique Kane and Lucille Chapman; and two grandsons, Tom and Christopher Pope.
