DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was informed that around Jan. 23 your newspaper ran a story about the Mid Maine Youth Orchestra. Is it possible to purchase a reprint of that article? Thank you. — Lisa, motherbearlee@gmail.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots was not able to locate the story to which you refer. However, if you do find it, you can get a reprint of that page.

PDF reprints are $20 a page. If the page needs to be edited to include the story’s jump, it’s $40. Customer service is the place to go for that service. The main office number is 1-800-482-0753.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few weeks ago (March 6), you had in your wonderful column a place where you can purchase pocket appointment diaries. I did not cut out the letter. Could you please repeat the information? Thank you. — No Name, Rumford

ANSWER: Sun Spots still does not know of any place to purchase these calendars. She got some from Mr. Shortill of Shortill Office Supply, who obtained them from the Maine Family Federal Credit Union, which offers them free to customers. Luckily for you, Mr. Shortill supplied Sun Spots with two, so she is mailing one to you today.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: How do you stop the phone calls from Rachel at Cardholders? I get two or three a day. I have renewed my Do Not Call list, but the calls keep coming.

The number that appears on Caller ID is West Linn, Ore., 503-563-0072. You can’t call it back.

When they call you, it tells you to press 1 to talk to someone or 3 to end the calls. Neither gets you any reprieve. Thanks. — Frustrated in Jay

ANSWER: Sun Spots has dealt with this issue extensively in recent columns (Jan. 30, Feb. 28; you can read them at sunjournal.com).

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. The federal government has recently passed some new regulations to try and put a stop to “robocalls” (outlined in the Feb. 28 column), but Sun Spots is somewhat skeptical as to how effective they will be.

It is extraordinarily inexpensive to place robocalls. Long-distance landline rates are very inexpensive, and computers work for free. As long as some people are willing to take those calls, they will continue.

Your best solution is to hang up, or, if you have Caller ID, to not answer the phone in the first place.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am a high school student looking for ways to raise some money for my video project.

A group of seniors at my high school had to create a “movie trailer” for our winter carnival competitions. It was so popular that we are turning it into a movie, but we need some help in order to purchase some new equipment for the movie.

We are still looking for other ways to get money or sponsors in order to buy equipment. Is there any way we can publicize our efforts, or get sponsors to help us reach our goal in raising funds? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you! — Chris via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots is sorry, but only nonprofits can ask for donations through the column. Maybe you and your friends could hold a car wash or some other fundraiser? Readers may have ideas as well.

This column is for you, our readers. It is for your questions and comments. There are only two rules: You must write to the column and sign your name (we won’t use it if you ask us not to).
