A heated discussion over an order to adjourn took place between Mayor Morey and Alderman Skelton of Ward One at Friday evening’s city government meeting in Lewiston. While the boards were preparing for a joint convention, Mayor Morey stepped to Mr. Skelton’s desk and held a whispered conversation. The mayor was the aggressor and it is claimed that spicy remarks came from his lips. Mayor Morey is said to have declared that the statements Mr. Skelton made in the newspaper regarding hbis administration were false — nothing but lies.
50 years ago, 1962
Lewiston-Auburn municipal officials today held a “battle meeting” to plan an all-out “war” against a Northeast Airline proposal announced this morning, that it be allowed to end its present Lewiston-Auburn air service thereby leaving the heart of central Maine without airline transportation as of April 29. The airline, which has been providing diminished service to the Twin Cities over the last few years, said today it would initiate a new service for Lewiston-Auburn plane riders running in and out of the Portland Municipal Airport.

Although the Androscoggin River has fallen only slightly from the peak of its flood Tuesday night, emergency officials are starting to wind down and get ready for the cleanup afterwards. There were still many sightseers held spellbound by the sight of the Great Falls Thursday night some 12 hours after it crested at a high of 23.99. At 10 p.m., the river height was 22.56 feet above normal with a rate of flow of 93,880 cubic feet per second, according to figures provided by Lewiston Police.
