LIVERMORE FALLS — The town’s code enforcement officer will send notices this week to owners of more than 30 properties to clean up their yards, which are in violation of the state’s junkyard law.

Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Monday that she, Code Enforcement Officer James Butler Jr. and highway foreman Bill Nichols recently investigated properties after receiving complaints.

At least one will cost the town money to clean up, Flagg said.

“We’ve been dealing with this for years and years,” she said. “It’s not going to go away overnight.”

Some of the violations include having more than two unregistered vehicles on the property, Butler said. He hopes the letters will get those properties in compliance, he said.

In other business, selectmen approved the appointment of Susan Metzger of Livermore Falls as the new animal control officer. She has been trained, Flagg said. She also took the 100-hour course to become a reserve police officer.

The previous animal control officer has taken a full-time job.
