Livermore Falls officers made an unexpected call at a house on upper Main Street Thursday night. Although taken completely by surprise as the officers entered a bedroom, the owner cautioned them that the lady in bed was very sick. Nothing daunted, as the woman had her clothes on, the officers searched the bed, finding a bottle of whiskey, some gin … and a bottle of beer, which they promptly seized, arresting the man and lodging him in the lock-up over night.
50 years ago, 1962
When Lewiston brothers Larry and Roger Fournier started their business five years ago, the idea was for a sort of quick lunch and hot dog stand. What resulted was completely different and since that time it has been called the Happy Jack Restaurant, located on the Lisbon Road near the turnpike interchange. A new feature of the restaurant is a Char-Broil grille, a greaseless cooker which gives that “out-of-door taste” to steaks and hamburgers.

Public safety agencies throughout the Androscoggin Valley were going on alert Monday night as the National Weather Service issued another flood warning for communities along the river’s course. The river should reach its 13-foot flood stage sometime Tuesday morning, though there was little reason to fear the kind of damage the river wreaked just a week ago (with a 23-foot flood crest).
