LEWISTON — Thomas W. Welch Jr., 80, of Farmington died Sunday, April 1, due to the chronic effects of his cardiovascular disease.
He was born in Mexico, June 4, 1931.
Thomas graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1948, and Husson College in 1959, earning his business degree. He owned Porter Equipment Inc. for 30 years.
After selling the business, he volunteered his services to local businesses moving equipment with his service truck. He is a past member of the Farmington Elks Club, Maine Lodge AF & AM (Shriners), and Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, an honorary member of the Farmington Legion, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the West Farmington Fire Department.
He enjoyed gardening, playing with his tractors, playing cards, cruising, cutting his wood lots and other outdoor activities. He enjoyed making furniture and reading.
He is survived by his wife, Lorrie; his children, Daniel and his wife, Julie; his daughter, Judy Welch M.D. (Perkins) and her husband, Anson; his stepdaughter, Kelly-Jo Levasseur and her husband, Daniel; grandchildren, Daniel Jay and Marissa Welch, Benjamin and Elisabeth Perkins, Chelsea and Evan Levasseur, Roland Tyler and Brian Young; great-grandchildren, Daniel Shane Welch and Roger Young and DavneeTyler; his sisters, Virginia and husband, Donworth Jones, Florida, Joyce Welch, Mexico and Sally and husband, Leon Hutchinson, Mexico; his brothers, George Welch and wife, Polly, of Dixfield, Paul Sargent and wife, Patricia, Alabama, and Steven Woods and wife, Jane, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Sylvia Welch; his first wife, Janet Hinkley Welch; and stepdaughter, Sara-Jane Tyler.
