The April term jury was empaneled in Androscoggin County Superior Court today, but soon had to be excused for lack of business. Principals in a motor vehicle negligence suit gathered in the courtroom, as the jury organized. In a last-minute development, however, the suit was settled out of court, and because five other cases also had been settled, the jury left without a case to hear.
25 years ago, 1987
Whether Maine’s doe hunting permit system is a proper way to manage the state’s deer herd or unfair to hunters was debated Wednesday at a public hearing at Edward Little High School in Auburn. Although a straw poll of about 50 people attending the session came out 2-1 in favor of the year-old, controversial system, many expressed dissatisfaction with it.
