JAY — Police on Monday and Tuesday were investigating thefts of two ATVs, two chain saws, prescription medicine and ice fishing equipment at several properties.

Two ATVs were reported stolen Tuesday morning from a residence on Stone Street behind the Municipal Building, Detective Richard Caton IV said. The ATVs were parked behind a garage.

Caton said he walked the ATV trails, which are closed this time of year, starting on Route 140. He followed tracks and recovered a 2003 Polaris Magnum 330 in about half an hour. It appeared to be undamaged, Caton said.

The second ATV, a 1986 Big Red 250 three-wheeler is still missing, Caton said.

The ATVs were stolen between Saturday night and early Tuesday. Officer Nicholas Gulliver assisted in the investigation.

Two chain saws were reported stolen early Tuesday from a Route 140 residence, he said. The Husqvarna and Stihl are still missing, Caton said.

Two burglaries were reported at two properties on Mill View Road, near Woodman Hill Road, in North Jay. Sgt. Troy Young handled one where prescription medicine and equipment were stolen from a shed, Caton said. It was reported either late Monday or early Tuesday.

The equipment was found on the property but the prescription drugs are still missing, he said.

Gulliver investigated the second burglary on that road where ice fishing equipment was stolen from a garage. The equipment was reported stolen Tuesday morning and was recovered next to the road near the property, Caton said.
