FARMINGTON — On Monday, April 9, Luana Kauiokalani Witherell, 51, passed of natural causes.

She was born in Hilo, Hawaii, Oct. 22, 1960, the daughter of Jeanerette Kauikeolani Kamau Thompson and Gordon Ross Thompson.

On Oct. 10, 1982, she married David Douglas Witherell, who she loved and cared for up to the day of her passing. Their marriage together this year would have been 30 years. Most of these years spent at 129 North St., Apartment No. 7. Known as an “open-door,” “drop-by-anytime” kind of place and always a high traffic place during Halloween!

She was a CNA and always known for her genuine care for her family and friends. When one says “family caregiver” she was the idol image. Her unconditional love for her family was a strong trait that was instilled in her by her mother “Jay” as she emulated how to take care of family Hawaiian style.

Well-known by friends’ best as “Lulubelle,” by her brothers as “Weezie,” some as “Lu” … but most of all VERY much known, appreciated and loved as “Mom, “Auntie” or “Nana.”

Also known as one that knew how to celebrate! Celebrating life with her warm smile-followed by a smirk and smart remark. Infamous at most, if not, ALL gatherings she attended whether it was at her brother Kawika’s in Industry, or in Temple or on “The Mountain!”

She is survived by her husband, David Douglas Witherell; daughter, Oriana Alohilani Keene and husband, Matt and children, Malia Jay, Brooklynn Marie, Mason Matthew; son, Harley David Kaleopaa Witherell and fiance, Lisa and child, Kyle; her brother, who lives in Hawaii, Kapoula and wife, Linda and children, Keoni and Koa; and her other brother, Kawika and wife, Erica and children, Kiana and Makao.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; and two daughters, Leilani and Heather.

Once again, if there was one thing that Luana knew how to do well was to give her unconditional love to her family most especially to her “babies.” She was ever so proud of her gift of giving what she could in love, as she could not give much from a monetary gift perspective which tore her up inside. Her children, Oriana and Harley have requested that in lieu of flowers that those wishing to contribute, how she wished she could financially to those who meant the most to her, her “Babies; Mason, Brooklynn, Malia, Kyle and yes, Makao and Kiana too!” Her children have established a savings account, c/o Franklin Savings Bank, “In Memory of Luana Witherell” 197 Main St., P.O. Box 825, Farmington, ME 04938-0825.
