PORTLAND — Portland Ovations will present violinist Jennifer Koh, recognized for her passionate and commanding performances, Thursday, May 3, at Hannaford Hall.

Koh says she chooses works that both inspire and challenge her, and constantly searches for similarities of voice among diverse composers.

Her “Bach & Beyond” program pairs the Bach Sonatas and Partitas with works by contemporary composers. Her Portland Ovations program will include Bach’s Sonata No. 1 in G minor, BWV 1001, Bartok’s Sonata for Solo Violin Sz. 117, BB 124, Mazzoli’s “Dissolve, Oh my Heart,” and Bach’s Partita No. 1 in B minor, BWV 1002.
