Mental health symposium
RUMFORD — Consumer Council System of Maine, A Voice for Consumer of Mental Health Services, will host the second annual Rumford Local Council Symposium. The symposium, “Eliminating Stigma: Moving Toward Community Inclusion and Beyond,” will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Mountain Valley High School, 799 Hancock St.
The keynote speaker will be Paula Gustafson, the coordinator of peer services at Sweetser. There will be an opportunity for members of the public to join in on the discussion of how to eliminate stigma around mental health by moving toward community inclusion. Informational booths will be available with local and state agencies sharing information.

GLBT group forming
AUGUSTA — Integrity, a national organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) Episcopalians, is forming a new chapter in the Central Maine area. A meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 9 Summer St. GLBT people of different faith traditions are also invited to the meeting.

Sportsmans Club meeting
DIXFIELD — The Webb River Sportsmans Club on the Canton Point Road will have their next meeting on Monday, April 16. Supper will be served at 6:30, meeting at 7 p.m. New members are welcome.
Oral cancer screenings
RUMFORD — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing and the Maine Oral Health Program are partnering for the third consecutive year to offer free oral cancer screenings. Screenings will take place Monday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rumford Hospital’s Specialty Clinic and Thursday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Multipurpose Center, 145 Birch St., Lewiston. No appointment is necessary. The screenings will be performed by a dentist and are non-invasive and painless.
More than 50,000 Americans were diagnosed with cancers of the head and neck last year. Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week is April 22-28. Addiction to be topic
BETHEL — “Understanding Addiction and Its Impact on Our Friends, Families and Community” will be presented by Tom Farrington, certified alcohol and drug counselor, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at The Bethel Congregational Church, 32 Church St.
Participants will have an opportunity to make suggestions for specific addiction-related programs of interest that may be offered in the future. A local support and treatment resource table will be available.
