AUBURN — Police on both sides of the Androscoggin River were watching local schools after a man reportedly exposed himself to a pair of girls near Edward Little High School.
It happened Wednesday, March 28, according to the mother of one of the girls. She said the two teenage girls were walking home from E.L. when a man stepped out of a truck on Hampton Avenue naked from the waist down.
The woman reported that the man approached the girls and they fled through a neighbor’s backyard. Once the teens reached home, police were called and arrived minutes later.
Several officers searched the neighborhood but no suspect was found.
According to Auburn police Deputy Chief Jason Moen, extra patrols have been assigned to the area around the school, but no suspect matching the description has been found and no other incidents were reported.
The mother of the girl accosted said she reported the incident to school officials, as well.
In Lewiston, Deputy Chief James Minkowsky said they have not received any reports of flashing involving the man described in the Auburn incident. Nonetheless, Minkowsky advised his officers about the incident, including the officer assigned to Lewiston schools.
Other incidents involving naked males have been reported in Lewiston, according to police records, but none recently near the schools.
The incident in Auburn remains under investigation. The man was described as a short, chubby Hispanic man who stepped out of a white full-size pickup truck.
