WILTON — The Wilton Fish & Game Club members hosted a potluck supper at the club house in honor of the Rimfire and Firing Pins shooting league.
Following a brief business meeting and meal the youths were presented with many awards beginning with the first invitational in Augusta at the Capital City Rifle and Pistol Club on Jan. 14. The Rimfire and Firing Pins both competed in the USA Shooting State Jr. Olympic Rifle Championship. Jared Roy was presented with a trophy for sixth place and had a score of 373+1. Both teams took fourth place.
Five members competed Feb. 4 in Augusta for the NRA National Jr. Rifle Indoor Sectional Championship. Jared Roy, Gavin Sanders, Lindzee Ridley, Connor Maurais and Philip Castonguay participated. The top four scorers made up the team. Roy, Sanders, Ridley and Maurais took first place in the Intermediate Jr. category. All members received medals and pins.
The teams participated in the 41st annual Maine Jr. Four Position Gallery Rifle Championship in Augusta on March 3. Members competing were Jared Roy, Gavin Sanders, Lindzee Ridley, Connor Maurais, Philip Castonguay, Alex Morrell and Bailey Morrell. The Rimfire Team made up of Roy, Sanders, Ridley and Maurais brought home a second-place trophy. With a score of 94+1 in the sitting position, Roy received a first-place trophy.
A five-week program is held on Tuesday nights at the Wilton Fish & Game indoor shooting range. This is a postal competition. Targets are mailed each week to the Augusta Capital City Rifle and Pistol Club. The Rimfire three-position team was awarded a trophy for first place in their division. The Firing Pins prone only team was awarded a first-place trophy in their division. Lindzee Ridley took a trophy for first place Top Shooter Sub junior girl division.
Wilton Fish & Game awards are as follows: Firing Pins (Prone team) first-place gold to Alex Morrell 333+2; second-place silver to Curtis Farmer 290+3; third-place bronze to Alex Kennedy 288+2; fourth place to Bailey Morrell 269; and fifth place to Cordell Welch 171+1.
Rimfire (three-position team) Prone: Gold to Jared Roy 432+4; silver, Gavin Sanders 355+3; bronze, Lindzee Ridley 335+2, Corey Ridley 311+2, Connor Maurais 303+1 and Philip Castonguay 267. Kneeling: gold, Jared Roy 334+4; silver, Lindzee Ridley 279+2; bronze, Gavin Sanders 261, Corey Ridley 192+1, Connor Maurais 187 and Philip Castonguay 146+1. Off Hand: gold, Jared Roy 227+1; silver, Gavin Sanders 172; bronze, Lindzee Ridley 169, Corey Ridley 141, Connor Maurais 108 and Philip Castonguay 106+1.
The most improved shooter trophy for the Firing Pins was awarded to Curtis Farmer. Top Shot trophy went to Alex Morrell with 333 points.
For the Rimfire team the most improved shooter trophy was awarded to Lindzee Ridley. Top Shot trophy went to Jared Roy with a score of 993+15 points.
All members of the shooting league received a Wilton Fish & Game patch and loud applause.
WF&G members gathered after the meeting to start plans for next year’s ice fishing derby. All activities will be on the ice next year and will be held on the Maine Free Fishing Day.
The leagues are collecting articles for a three-day Memorial Day weekend yard sale. The Youth League will be happy to collect unwanted items from spring cleanings. Funds earned will be used to upgrade equipment. For pick-up call Don at 401-9766, Lynn at 491-9763 or Greg at 931-8724.
