It is safer to wear blaze orange when out hunting. (It’s the law in Maine.) If hunters don’t wear orange and are wearing camouflage, other hunters might think that they are a deer and shoot them.

Many accidents happen to people around the United States when not wearing orange while hunting. Walt Blackman taught hunter safety for 20 years in Oregon and agrees that orange should be worn while hunting.

Matthew Gretzon, also of Oregon, was a 15-year-old who was killed by his grandfather because his grandfather thought he was a deer and he shot him. Gretzon was one of the 26 people killed in hunting accidents since 1998. These facts show that a lot of hunting accidents happen with people are not wearing orange.

I think that hunters who get caught not wearing orange should get two warnings and on the third warning, they would need to take another hunter safety course.
