LEWISTON — Lois W. Maleski, 92, died Friday, April 13, at Montello Manor.

She was born in Topsham on January 13, 1920, the daughter of Roger and Grace Hutchins Williams. Lois attended school in Brunswick and attended both Farmington Teachers School and a business school in Portland. She worked at the central district of the Baltimore City Police Department as a clerk. Lois was a former member of the Poland Busy Bees and Excelsior Grange and was a member of Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Mechanic Falls. She was active in the charismatic movement within the church. She was an avid gardener, having many beautiful flower gardens around her home, both in Baltimore, Md., and Poland, Maine.

She also was a homemaker who devoted her early married life to her family’s needs. She made the “perfect” pie crust and excelled in hand sewing and quilting.

Lois was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, whom she met after World War II, in the Brunswick, Maine USO. She was very daring for a small-town gal when she moved with her husband to “Little Poland” in Baltimore. It was there in the Parkville area of Baltimore that she raised her family, and took the girls for summers enjoyed with her Maine family each year. Then, as promised long ago by her husband, they retired back to Maine in Poland.

Survivors include her three daughters, Janis Copenhaver of Reynoldsville, Pa., Susan Amoroso and husband Joseph of Cumberland, Margaret Barnes and husband Michael of Old Orchard Beach; a granddaughter, Kara Barnes of Dover, N.H.; a grandson, Joel Barnes of Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Montello Commons/Manor staff (who are real, live angels), Dr. Oswald, Dr. Latafferti and Androscoggin Hospice Care for the wonderful care they provided their mother. Special thanks to David and Helen, residents of Montello commons/Manor, who went our of their way to be kind to Lois.
