Donations help animals

LEWISTON — Governor’s Restaurant is holding its fourth annual campaign in support of the Greater Androscoggin Country Humane Society and to celebrate Prevention to Cruelty to Animals month.

Throughout the month of April, supplies may be dropped off for the shelter at Governor’s of Lewiston, 1185 Lisbon St. Donors will be entered in a drawing for a $25 Governor’s gift certificate. Supplies can include animal food, pet toys, blankets, towels, cleaning supplies, office supplies and more.

There are also GAHS T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts for sale, with the entire purchase price going to the shelter for operating expenses.

Historical society to meet

POLAND —The monthly meeting of the Poland Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Old School House, Poland Corner, Route 26. Public welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Holly Hurd will be the speaker for the May 16 meeting.

Garden sign-ups and planning

LEWISTON — Community Garden sign-ups are now taking place. Lots to Gardens has garden plots available in several community gardens around Lewiston. Contact Lots to Gardens for more information or visit the Lewiston Winter Farmers Market from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, or Thursday, May 17, to sign up, the earlier the better.

The garden plot fee is $10, which includes seeds and seedlings, so EBT can be used.

Garden planning information will be shared  at the Lewiston Winter Farmers Market or the St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, 208 Bates St., from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19. Workshop is free, but donations welcomed.

Cribbage League results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 12 were: first place, Ed Hinckley and Mike Martin; second place, June Boisvert and Gene Brown; third place, Val Asselin and Bryan Lambert; fourth place, Anna Faucher and Bob Cielinski; fifth place, Bert Belanger and Terry Chambers.

Eastern Star to meet

LISBON FALLS — Pioneer Chapter No. 11 Lisbon Falls, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Ancient York Masonic Hall on Route 196. The chapter will be honoring chaplains.

Refreshments will be served after the meeting. All members of the Order are invited to attend.

Legion supper cancelled

AUBURN — The American Legion Post 31 regular monthly supper, scheduled for Saturday, April 21, at the post home on Washington Street, has been cancelled.

Bridge Club results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on April 17 were as follows: first, Linda Leotsakos and Henry Lerette; second/third tie, Roger Labbe and Larry Fortier with Helen Little and Nancy Lindgren; fourth, Mary Ann Trafton and Mike True; fifth, Priscilla Rooth and Claire Lyons; first in B, Linda Leotsakos and Henry Lerette; second in B/first in C, Roger Labbe and Larry Fortier; third in B/second in C, Priscilla Rooth and Claire Lyons.

Bereavement training

LEWISTON – The Program for Grieving Children & Teens is announcing its next 30-hour volunteer training for individuals interested in being part of the team for upcoming program sessions. Training begins Monday, April 23. The training includes two Saturday sessions: April 28 and May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and four evening sessions: April 23, 25, 30 and May 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. Classes will be held at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 15 Strawberry Ave.

The training is offered free of charge and is designed to prepare interested participants in the art of volunteer work with grieving children and their families. The course is comprehensive in scope, exploring a wide range of topics including the understanding of grief and its stages, how individuals of varying ages process grief, the use of age appropriate activities within groups and the safe expression of anger and other emotions.
