NORWAY — The Western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, at the Frost Hill Solid Waste facility.
Frost Hill is off Route 117 between Norway and Harrison.
Oxford Hills Technical School forestry students are conducting a commercial harvest on about five acres of town land there.
The students are harvesting mostly white pine, skidding the logs to a landing near the stump dump and processing them into boards with a Thomas portable sawmill, which will be set up on the site, according to a release issued by SWOAM.
Students will demonstrate safe tree falling, skidding and sawmill work. Foresters will be on site to answer forestry questions.
Coffee and donuts will be available at 8:30 a.m. prior to the 9 a.m. session, which is free and open to the public.
