WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Electronic Transactions Association, the global trade association representing the payments processing industry, announces that Jason Oxman, a native of Auburn, has been named the association’s chief executive officer.
The announcement came as thousands of the world’s leading payments industry professionals gathered in Las Vegas for the 2012 ETA Annual Meeting and Expo.
Oxman will assume the CEO role at ETA on May 7. He will serve as the payments industry’s spokesman, advocate and ambassador before state and federal policymakers, other industries and partners, and the media on behalf of ETA’s more than 500 member companies. He will also direct the staff, operations and initiatives of the association.
Oxman joins ETA from the Consumer Electronics Association, the U.S. trade association that produces the International CES, where he served as senior vice president of industry affairs and oversaw a staff of 40 professionals across multiple departments.
Previously, Oxman served as general counsel of a technology industry trade association and as vice president of a Silicon Valley-based technology company. Oxman also worked at the Federal Communications Commission to develop and implement technology and broadband policies.
A former broadcast journalist at commercial and public radio stations, Oxman is also an attorney. He serves on the boards of two nonprofit organizations, Learning Ally in Washington, D.C., and the Cushing’s Island Conservation Corp., an environmental land trust in Maine.
Oxman holds a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Amherst College, a master’s degree in mass communication from Boston University School of Communication, and a law degree from Boston University Law School. He also holds the Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives and the Accredited in Public Relations designation from the Public Relations Society of America.
