DEAR SUNSPOTS: I was cleaning out my daughter’s closet and have two prom gowns with matching shoes, etc., that I was hoping to donate to a local organization that gives away the dresses. Am I too late for this prom season? Thanks! — Leola St Amour, LMStamour@gmail.com

ANSWER: In previous years, the STEP program for homeless students at Lewiston High School has asked for these dresses, so Sun Spots contacted STEP’s Mary Seaman and she said:

“Yes! We would love the prom dresses, but not so much bridal party gowns. Thanks for thinking of us! Items can be dropped off at the main desk at LHS.”

For additional questions, you can email Mary at mseaman@lewistonpublicschools.org.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Can you tell me if there is a place in Lewiston or Auburn that will accept your quality used clothing for resale? I have formal gown which I no longer need and would like to sell them. — No Name via email

ANSWER: The one place Sun Spots knew of has a disconnected phone number. You could try selling them through a classified ad, eBay or Craigslist. Or perhaps readers will let Sun Spots know of another secondhand store in the region.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: To the lady who wants to buy colored stretch pants (March 23), I get mine at Haband.com or 1-800-742-2263. They have many colors, are true to size and very reasonable in price. A new catalog is just out.

For myself, does anyone have a set of speakers (small ones) for a record player from the 1970s? I would be willing to pay a small amount and postage. Thanks. — B. Jones, Hartford

ANSWER: Sun Spots contemplated recommending Haband (they sell a lot of stuff), but she has had some complaints about them regarding the difficulty of refunds. You can go ahead and buy from them if you use a credit card. That way, if you are unhappy, you can file a dispute and let the credit card company fight it out with them. (They usually win!)

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wonder how many Sudoku addicts are as disappointed as I am at the recent change in the game. Up until this week the week began with an easy puzzle and gradually increased each day to more difficult. Now they begin with and continue with difficult, actually challenging.

So many of my elderly friends and I have enjoyed the feeling of success as the week went by. Now they are too difficult to begin. Can the people in charge of puzzles bring back the old form for “us oldies”? How happy we would be! — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots put your question to Advertising Director Jody Jalbert, who emailed the following:

“The puzzles do actually get harder as the week progresses. You’ll notice the skill level is listed at the bottom right-hand corner of the puzzle. Monday and Tuesday are beginner puzzles, Wednesday and Thursday are intermediate and Friday through Sunday are advanced.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wish that the Sudoku puzzles would revert to its original size. I can’t believe that no one has responded to the reduced size. — Don, No Town

ANSWER: You are one of many who objected to the new size, and the Sun Journal heard you. Jody told Sun Spots it is bigger once again.
