Senior Chelsea Gaudet said, “Even though we didn’t win, I still think we did the very best we could. I’m proud of every one of those girls.”

Gaudet went on to earn a gold medal for a solo at the collegiate level. Her competition was teammate and MVHS alumna Kristen Harris. Both performed to circus-like music.

“It was really very close. I only beat her by 0.1 point,” Gaudet said.

In addition to Gaudet, Krystal Parent, a MVHS alumna, won a silver medal in the senior solo division.

Members of the MVHS Majorettes include Brittany Cole, Heather Durfee, Chelsea Gaudet, Dellshawn Harris, Kristen Harris, Syvella Harris and Krystal Parent. Tammy Parent is the coach and Krystal Parent assists her.

After discussing the list of members, Gaudet observed that most are seniors and alumni. “I’m concerned about the team next year. I hope that by winning at the state level, more people will know about us and want to join a winning team.”

The team practices for two hours per day, five days per week. “While that sounds like a lot, it’s a life-long skill to be able to commit to something and follow through with it,” Gaudet said.

Gaudet also reflected on the camaraderie that develops within the team. “We’re welcoming and one big happy family. Whenever you get a group of girls together, there’s always a little drama. But we’re there for each other.”

“To join Majorettes, contact us on our facebook page – Mountain Valley Majorettes,” Gaudet said. “Even though the team is all girls right now, we would gladly accept boys who would like to join us.”
