Mystery deepens in the brutal murder, the story of which is told herewith. Was there a woman in the case? Was John W. Bibber of Lewiston shot down without mercy for what money he might have upon his person, or was he the victim of hate on the part of some revengeful rival? The day has brought countless rumors and one or two clues. The chief of these is a perfect description of a strange man who boarded the 10 p.m. trolley car to Augusta, alighted at Day’s Corner, South Monmouth, and disappeared. Mr. Bibber’s personal belongings give no trace of threatening letters. He died, so far as is known to-day, with no enemies and a world of friends. Who shot him down and why?
