OXFORD — Oxford Hills Special Education Director Timothy Luft has been named Special Education Administrator of the Year by the Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities.

The recognition was announced by Superintendent Rick Colpitts at Monday night’s meeting of the Oxford Hills School Board.

Luft, who served as assistant special education director here prior to being named director last year, is leaving the district in June to accept the position of special education director in his hometown school district in Natick, Mass.

Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities is a 36-year-old organization based in Manchester. It serves as a resource for Maine schools and agencies. It advocates for the right of all children to have a free and appropriate public education.

In other news, the board extended the contracts of 19 mid-management and central office administrators by one year and the assistant superintendent of schools, coordinator of guidance and counseling and the assistant principal at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High school contract by two years.

No salaries have been attached to the contract extensions yet, Colpitts said. The board is still negotiating a contract with the Oxford Hills School District teachers union.

School board member Don Gouin of Norway, a member of the Oxford Hills Technical High School teachers negotiation team, said he was concerned that the teachers salaries in both the comprehensive high school and the technical school be equitable.

The school board heard an update on teacher evaluation legislation from Assistant Superintendent Patrick Hartnett and a report from the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Respect Team.

The board approved the construction of a compost bin kiosk at the Hebron Station School to be funded by the Maine Math Science Alliance, and the purchase of a new freezer at the Waterford Memorial School.
